Edward S. Morse, Jr., of 747 Maple St., Meadville, died Saturday,
December 11, 2004 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement
Community following a lengthy illness.
He was born in New York City August 10, 1915, a son of the late
Edward S. and Winifred Vance Morse. He married Evelyn L. Mau
August 23, 1941 and she survives.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts in
History and Finance, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Thereafter, he was employed at the American Thread Company and
G.P. Putnam Publishers, both of New York City and subsequently
at Talon, Inc. where he was the general credit manager and assistant
treasurer for over 20 years, until his retirement in 1977. He was a
U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946.
Chairman of the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red
Cross from 1973-1977, he was active in that organization for over
25 years. He was also a past president of the Crawford County
Historical Society and the Meadville Country Club, as well as an
active member of the Meadville Round Table, the Meadville Elks
Lodge #219, and the Boots and Saddle Club. He was an avid golfer
and enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, and outings with his
family. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Meadville.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Eve of 63 years, include 3 daughters,
Mrs. Carole Alexander of Meadville; Mrs. Jane Headley of Linesville;
and Ann Lyman of Downers Grove, IL; 6 grandchildren, Mrs. Barrie
Alexander Ford, Mr. Chris Headley, Mr. Shaun Headley, Mr. Matthew
Doubleday, Ms. Susan North, and Mr. Andrew North;
2 Great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 3 brothers; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced
by the family.
